This morning's Music Monday is around a musician rather than just his music.
Last night a lot of us lost a loved one.
Micheal Bynum gave so much that he had to the service of others.
For me, I remember late Saturday nights growing up at the Gadsden Vineyard Church at the 'House of Blue'. Many of my first memories of my home church at GVC were growing up going to this event. After church, we would always go to a late night dinner for fellowship with one another for all who wanted to come.
I remember meeting all kinds of people at House of Blue and spending plenty of time staring up at the lights on top of the buildings of downtown Gadsden from the store front doors. It felt like Christmas there. Looking back now, I wonder if that was also the first time that I ever felt God's spirit in a room along with the deep sense of fellowship among brothers and sisters in Christ.
In that place there was joy.
In that place there was God's presence.
Michael was one of the first people apart of my life growing up that wasn't blood, but that still was/is family. Truly, I was raised by a city and every last one of them I still consider to be my family.
I think it's amazing how God does that. He can make bonds between people that are closer or just as close as blood family sometimes.
Michael made a huge difference in people's lives and spent much of his life working in the recovery church whether it be Rapha or the Gadsden Recovery Church he held on Saturday evenings later on at the church.
His sweet heart shone a God given light that touched so many others in so many ways.
Aside, from my personal experiences, Michael and my dad were close throughout the Christian Brothers days. They often would get together and play worship music.
Personally, when I think of Michael I think of that old photo of him in waffle house from around 10 years ago that Jim Bentley took over a morning breakfast while discussing the Gadsden Vineyard. That smile and heart I think just about sums up Michael Bynum's joy.
Fairwell friend and thank you for all your love and service to others.
